Alert for onhand quantities

 Hello all,
I am planning to create an alert for warning if the On hand qty is lower than the requested qty of Sales Order , if this happens, an alert will be sent out.

i have more than 1 item to have the warning, and different item has different qty to be watched,  how to do i group them together, and  which kind of alert should i choose, periodic or trigger? thanks
