Updating Receivables Activities Activity GL Account Question

 Our AR group needs to update the Activity GL Account because a new line item has been created for interest.  Is there a preferred method for making these updates?
1.  Keeping the current Receivable Activity "Active" and simply updating the Activity GL Account with the new line item

OR

2.  "Inactivating" the current Receivable Activity and creating an entirely new Receivable Activity with the updated GL Account.
