cannot connect via SQLPLus anymore (11.2.0)

  I'm running 11.2.0 on my Windows 7 notebook to do some testing. Recently everything was fine, I could connect to the local server using SQLPlus.

From one day to the other - don't know what has been installed that made it go defunct -
I'm getting a time out. I can tnsping (port 1521) to ORCL fine.

But trying to log in using

SQLPLus user/passwd@ORCL hangs forever.
