Books of Business' access profile for related information

Does any of you know how the access profile for Books work? I have a book and its access profile assigned by workflow to a record. It works as expected for the main record but not for the related info: the book's access profile should allow the user to see the related record but it doesn't.
When looking at the books assigned to the related record none show either...
