Problem with CRM Email Marketing

Hello,

Recently we sent an email marketing campaign to 30.000 clients using client and contact merge values.

The problem is that special caracters like á or ñ   were received as html code (ie:  María was shown as  Mariacute;a).  And that happened with just merge values, the rest of the email contain special characters and they didn't suffer any distorsion.

There is a document called: Email Marketing On Demand R1.4 Administrator Preview Guide

that says:

Non-English Merge fields display English values in the received email for
account and contact objects
If EMOD is set to display in a language that is not English, merge fields from the Account and
