Upgrading the OS will it affect the database?

We have all the Database Server with the OS RHEL 5.3 on x86_64.
We have just one server which has still RHEL 4.6 on x86_64.
We would like to upgrade the OS to that company standard version.
What we do not know is how to do it.
We thought to upgrade the OS only,I wonder if the Oracle databases can start after the upgrade.
So the question is: is it possible to upgrade the RHEL OS from 4.6 to 5.3 and then start again the databases?
Do not we need to follow this
1) upgrade OS
2) install Oracle 10g on the new RHEL 5.3 OS
