How to find hardware specification on Linux and Unix

 I want to find the number of CPUs, number of core, and other hardware specifications on Linux and Solaris Unix server. Is there a command that I can issue to look at it so that I don't need to ask the system administrator every time I needed? Please let me know. Thank you very much.
