Oracle 11gR2 - Linux: Unsupport Linking Applications With Oracle Client Libraries

Hi all, From my research below, it seems Oracle 11gR2 doesn't support linking statically client lib application on Linux.  Do you know why?
If that's the case, why would they still allow it to be built?
Please confirm.  Thanks so much.
