11gR2 SCAN with F5 load balancers

We are preparing to setup our first 11gR2 2-node RAC.  The business unit has ordered the hardware based upon their previous 10g RAC standard, which included a F5 load balancer.  Since 11gR2 now includes SCAN, it would seem the F5 is no longer needed.  However, since it's already arrived, I was wondering if we could use the hosts file workaround for SCAN and set the SCAN IP address to the F5 address of the load balancer?

Has anyone done anything like this before?
