OCSG 5.0 - What is the need to introduce SMPP Service?

Hi

I have installed OCSG 5.0 and noticed that a new container service SMPP Service has been introduced. This essentially controls all the client and server connections for Parlay X 2.1 SMS plugin and Native SMPP Plugin and some more.

Please can someone shed light on why this was required as the same functions were handled in the respective plugins in the OCSG 4.x version.
