Excel Add-In

I'm looking for someone to point me in the right direction for a solution here.

When users launch Excel, the Essbase add-in loads properly.  However, if another program launches Excel (ie. launching by double-click / opening via an email program), the add-in load returns the error that  "This file is not in a recognizable format." and then proceeds to show the add-in in binary on a spreadsheet.

Any thoughts on how to resolve?

We are running Add-In 9.3.1.3.
