Link failed on OEL5 x64

Hello all,
I have a mix install with the enterprise server and the db server on the same linux 64bit  box. All is good just for the link of the business function libraries. They compile just fine but they give a link error,

builddll.c:2382 BUILDDLL0082 ERROR: Exiting DoTheLink with failure.

I've looked at the linkoptions in the jde.ini and it includes the "-melf_i386" flag.
Any ideeas will be appreciated.
