gateway configuration for vlan tagging

Hi folks,

I am new here but am struggling w/ vlan tagging configuration. I have created the appropriate files under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-bond0.vlan_id and it seems to have taken. ifconfig -a shows the devices but I cannot ping the gateway. Do i need to change the network file to specify the vlan? also, I have seem some discussion about stripping the tag, could this be the issue? i have not done anything in regards to stripping the tag.
