Oracle 11g R2 installation on Solaris fails with automounted directories

I am installing Oracle 11gR2 on Solaris 10/7. My UNIX admin has created /oracle, /oracle/oradata, etc. as automounted directories to a SAN. During the software only installation, OUI complained that it could not write to /oracle. Its true that Oracle cannot create a file in /oracle being that it is only a mount point but, It should be able to create all of the necessary subdirectories in /oracle. We've installed 10g using a similar auto-mounted scheme. I'm wondering if anything changed with the preinstall checks in 11g. Using truss, we can see that it is failing when trying to get a file handle in /oracle and
