cannot delete asmdisk

 When issue oracleasm deletedisks NEWDATA1, got "Clearing disk header: failed Unable to clear disk "NEWDATA1" error. Try to search on web, all suggest to take asm instance down. Is there anyway to delete asm disk when asm_instance is up?
