Demanta Offline Mode and Performance Issues

I've been promoting the use of Demantra offline functionality to our users - the demonstrations have gone quite well and the inclination is for the user community to embrace the functionality but doing the final testing prior to roll-out it seems that there are some performance issues.  40% extra login time is required when Demantra Offline is setup.  Some users have found the system so slow that it has become unusable.  Remove the Demantra offline folder and performance comes back.  Has anybody else suffered / fixed this?
