Custom Objects FAQ

 I am looking for a quick-reference guide or FAQ, regarding the functionality of Custom Objects, i.e. - are they all 'reportable'? best practices when using custom objects, etc.  Does anyone have anything?  Or is there a good discussion on the subject that I haven't been able to find?  Thanks!
