Client Version vs DB version vs Client OS Version

 If I try to go from a 10g client on Windows 7 64bit to a 9i database via a front end app, I get errored out.

If I try to go from a 10g client on Windows 7 64 bit machine to a 10g database, I am successfull.

If I go from a 9i client on WinXP-32 to the 10g via the same front end app as in line 1, I am successfull.

Yes I am on the trailing edge of technology for the database but I am near the bleeding edge on out maintenance management app.  The combo helps my level of stress and sanity.
