How to use LDAP and Active Directory to authenticate users

 I have Oracle 10gR2 std edition database running on HP-UX Itanium and I have an windows application that access the database.
Can anyone tell me whether I can use LDAP and active directory for user authentication?
If yes, what do I need to do to configure/setup? any link would be very helpful.
