BackOrder Release - R42118 runs very slow, takes 5-8 hrs to finish

BackOrder Release - R42118 takes long time to finish, some time it takes 5-8 hrs. We do have 7 millions recors in S.O.details. We do have back order in range of 5000 - 15000. R42118 takes 6 hrs to complete for 15000. I would like to know if anybody has similar issues and what are the actions have been taken to reduce the procesing time. Is there any work around avaiable ? Thanks!
