Cascading Coverage Question

I have a question about whether or not a service contract can be configured in a way to cascade coverage for an entire kit if it is assigned to the top level item at the sales order.  Below are some details.
Create an order for a bundle below:

• BUNDLE-123
• PART-abc
• PART-xyz
• PART-454

The bundle is non-serialized.  The parts are serialized.  The users add a line on the order for an extended service contract and link it to line 1 (BUNDLE-123).  When I ship the product the contract is created against BUNDLE-123 but the serialized parts below that item do not reference any contract.  Our customers will never return the BUNDLE-123 part, instead they may return PART-xyz which does not come up as being an entitled product.
