Importing into JDE from an .xlsx file

I'm starting this discussion in the Financials area because I think accountants may import items more than other users. If this belongs in some technical forum, can you let me know where I should ask this?

We are on Xe. Can you import from Excel 2007? It doesn't seem to recognize the .xlsx file extension. Do we have to save the files down to .xls to be able to import them? I know we can copy / paste to get the records in there, but is an impport from Excel 2007 possible?
