Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11g fails to connect to 8i database target

Hi there - I would like some help with a problem - Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11g fails to connect to 8i database target
 
Have already raised an SR for Oracle regarding this issue, but as it relates to 8i database I thought I'd better see if anybody here could help!
 
I have a created a new 11g Grid Control environment details as follows:
OS - RHEL5, Java and Weblogic and 11g Enterprise Manager Grid Control 11g (11gR1)
Grid Control (OMS and Agent) 11.1
Repository database: single instance 11.2.0.2 
All installed per official docs and up and running OK.
