How make a field required for only specific selections from a picklist

On my Opportunity Homepage, I have a field called Sales Stage, which is a picklist containing several values.  For two of those values (Closed/Won and Closed/Lost), I want to make the Actual Close/Ship Date field required (but not required for any of the other values).  Any suggestion on how I might do that?  Thanks.
