Set the sales stage in a new opportunity using a web service integration

   I need to set the sales stage in a new opportunity using a web service integration. We are trying to pass the value 'Best few' to the new opportunity's Sales Stage, but receive an error indicating the value is not valid. We have also tried passing the value 'New business' to the Opportunity Type field and receive an error indicating that is also not valid.

Does anyone know the command that would need to be passed in order for these values to be recorded on a new Opportunity using a web service to create it? Opportunity Type and Sales Stage are both required fields for a new Opportunity and a default can not be set for either.
