iRec: Ability for iRecruitment to post to job boards

I understand that it is possible to automatically post to job boards from postings within iRec via HR-XML templates. How is this accomplished and how successful have folks been with this. Is this standard functionality or do we need to write an extension. We are currently evaluating iRec to replace our current recruiting tool and if this can't be done easily, it be a hard stop for moving forward with iRec.
