11.5.10.2 --> 12.1.1 --> 12.1.3 Interim steps quations

 We have upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.1. Ultimately we want to get to 12.1.3. Is it mandatory to do all of the 12.1.1 post upgrade steps and allow the historical financial data concurrent request to complete before continuing to 12.1.3? 

Any suggestions for more specific sequencing of steps to get from 11.5.10.2 to 12.1.3?  Without having to do an intermediate set of steps/validations?
