Generic Entitlements? Is it possible?

We have an interesting requirement to attempt to satisfy. I'm not a contracts person so forgive me if this is a silly question.
Our client would like the ability to define a generic entitlement to a customer for an entire family of products. For example, we sell software item ABC to a given customer. This item is version 1.0 of a software product. They want the customer to be entitled to support for this product and any product that is a subsequent version of the software. So if the customer was to call back with version 2.3 (which is a different item number) they would still be entitled to support for the product. It would be great if we could create a
