Agile 9.2.2.4 and IE 8

We are using Agile 9.2.2.4 and Internet Explorer 6 or 7. We have been told IE 8 will not work with Agile 9.2.2.4. We need to move to IE 8 for a variety of reasons and our new workstations and laptops are preloaded with IE 8 with an invitation to load IE 9 when you open IE 8. Can someone tell me if it is safe to load IE 8.
