Data Guard : removing primary archived log backups

I have an 11.2.0 Data Guard configuration (primary and 1 standby). I do a full backup on the Standby database and only archived log backups on the Primary.  Everything is working well except that the primary database archived log backups (the backupsets not the archived logs) are not being removed via “delete obsolete”. I believe this is because I don’t do a full backup on the primary so they never become obsolete. How do I get those to be removed via the delete obsolete command? Or should I just not back them up on the Primary knowing the archivelogs won’t get removed until they are backed up on
