two JVMs on the same application server

Can We have two JVMs on the same application server.  1.6 for app server and 1.4.2 for JavaBusinessService alone ?Can I just install 1.4.2 and point the DLL in named subsystem to 1.4.2 DLL?   Will it work? We are on Siebel 7.8
