R12 upgrade clean up

Hi,
We are in the process of upgrading to R12 and are wanting to clean up some old data.  Are there any suggestion on cleaning up customers and suppliers?  If we inactivate customers and suppliers will they convert to R12 with the status of inactivate or will they not convert at all?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
