Dead lock issue

 I was checking the alert log and found out there were whole bunch of dead lock messages in it. I understand that oracle automatically resolves the deadlock issue. But is there a way to find out what might be running or going on around that time and maybe prevent it from happening next time? It did generate some trace file, but it's hard to read though. Any advice? My oracle version is 10.2.0.3 on solaris 10. Thanks.
