period end accruals

What is the impact of running period end accruals if you do not close the AP period?  We are cleaning up some very old purchase orders and want to isolate any journal entries that they may create.  The thought is to run the period end accruals before and after the clean -up however we will not be closing the AP period.
Any thoughts?
