RAC Upgrade concerns? How to backup clusterware and database software before upgrade?

we are going to upgrade our RAC 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5 soon. before upgrade oracle recommend to backup clusterware home and database software home. So do i need to stop the crs and all the instances before take backup? what command should i use to backup the folder like cp?
