Create Report with output in Excel

I have created a custom report with an XML data definition and a worf .rtf report template. In XML Publisher Responsibility, I have specified Excel as the output type for the report. When I run this report, the output does come through in excel, but the data is incorrectly formatted, for example a number appears as 26.20 in the XML data, but appears as 26.2 in the excel document.
Does anyone know if a report template can be created in Excel rather than Word. If so, how is this done. Any feedback on this issue will be appreciated.
