Administartion for 11G R2

 Dear all,
we are planning to upgrade our oracle 8i server to oracle 11g r2. We are new to the 11g database. For database administrator any good reference recommended?

We are using rule base optimize option in 8i. As I know I should run statistics on 11g server for performance. We are using a relatively small database. May I know how frequent we should run statistics, is it enough if we run once a month?
