Grid Control 11.1.0.1 re-install due to /etc/hosts file format

We have installed Grid Control 11.1.0.1 in both a development (single OMS) and production (dual OMS) environments.  After deployment of several agents, Oracle support noted a problem with our installation.  The target discovery was not using the "fully qualified host name".  This is due to our corporate standard for /etc/hosts being in a different order from what Oracle expects.  Support has indicated that the only solution to this issue is the de-install and re-install of the entire environment  (the installation does give a warning on this, but does allow the install to proceed successfully).  Changing the /etc/hosts file across our landscape is not a
