Flashback database and ora-01555

 I got a minute before I start putting out another fire.  I have flashback database enabled but get an ORA-0155 "old snapshot" error when I try to flashback a table within the time range.  I thought the flashback logs were created to that the rollbacks didn't have to be huge.  I'm probably overlooking something.  Any ideas?
