Can Clusterware be used without ASM?

Hi - is it possible to use Oracle Clusterware to protect a single instance database WITHOUT using ASM? Our customer has mandated that the storage manager for the SAN on which the database files will reside be used. We're moving from Solaris RDBMS R10.2 database servers to a HP Linux Oracle 11R2 platform and Clusterware has been suggested as a way of protecting the databases, but don't want to use ASM. RAC will not be used.
