Linking RM serial number to FG serial number

Customer is an OEM manufacturing automobiles in process of implementing WIP, BOM , Quality, WMS, Configurator.

The requirment is to have the serial number of the automobile linked one to one with the serial number of the engine used. This it seems will require to open one WIP job for each FG automobile manufactured as then only we can link the Engine serial number with the automobile serial number for reporting and tracking purpose.

Please suggest what would be the best practice to manage this scenario.
