FILESYSTEMIO_OPTIONS = SETALL v ASYNCH Oracle11g on RHEL5 direct path read temp waits

In the process of migrating from hosting systems in house to a 3rd party data centre I am trying to understand why some queries are taking longer than our existing system. The existing server is running ASM which we are unable to use in the 3rd party datacentre, so this is undoubtedly contributing due to the way things like async io is working.

The new system is a LeftHand SAN with masses of spindles and everyting is spread over everything (Network RAID 10 over RAID 5).

I thought the slowness might be due to directio not being used for sorts, so I changed FILESYSTEMIO_OPTIONS=SETALL from AYSNCH.

Howdy, Stranger!
