Java plugin crashing Firefox on one machine, works on another

I have a v880 running Solaris 10, Firefox 3.6 and version 1.6.0_26 of the JRE. With this configuration, the Java plugin works just fine.

We also have some Ultra 40s with the same version of the OS, browser, and JRE, and on these the browser crashes whenever the Java plugin loads.

Clearly, there much be some difference between the two setups, but I'm having trouble figuring out what they are.  Does anyone have any suggestions as to 1) why the Java plugin would be crashing the browser (i.e. and known issues that I'm missing), or 2) how to get some debugging info to determine the problem?
