Advantages of using pricelist

Hi

Can you pl refer some documentations on the usefulness of pricelist in EBiz? I understand that pricelist is essential for order booking, quote creation etc. but not fully convinced what benifit it will give to my organization if we follow a pricelist. I can create a zero pricelist and offer adhoc pricing on to that to derive the selling price. So what is the use of creating pricelist then?
