Dropship SO/PO - Updates to Qty/ Promised Date/Need By date allowed?

Hi,

 I have a dropship PO created within the system. the users are trying change the qty and the need by date/promised date directly on the PO itself without doing so within the SO?  This is causing discrepancies within the system. Is this a supported feature by Oracle? Is there a way to prevent such updates directly on the PO?

We are on 11.5.10.2 . Doesnt Oracle prevent such updates in R12?

can someone throw some light on this functionality please. Any thoughts/suggestions is appreciated.
