AME vs Using seeded workflow approval rules

We are in retial industry and operate throughtout USA.  In view of how the business is structured, there numerous claim types and associated approval rules with multiple levels.  This is causing maintenance issues.

Can we leverage AME and from maintenance perspective will it be easier.

Feedback from the members will be greatly apprecaited.
