Is there a way for depreciate flag to be inherited from Mass Transactions?

Is there any way for a mass reclassification to inherit whether or not the depreciate flag is checked? I know standard Oracle Assets UG says it is not possible, depreciation defaults may default but whether or not the asset depreciates will not default.
My issue is the client must comply with US Federal Department of Energy accounting standards and report on capital assets by status: In Service, Hold for Future Use, Excess, etc. When an asset has a status of "Excess," The depreciation should be suspended (not reversed) until the asset is placed back in service.

My solution for this is to make "Status" a segment of the Asset Category, however now when testing Mass Reclassifications, it seems that for each asset the accountant would have to manually uncheck the "Depreciate" checkbox for those assets moved into Excess. Is there an easier way either with this design or with another?

Howdy, Stranger!
