"Material Transactions" vs "Material Distributions"

Hi there

we are using oracle financials r 11.5.10, average cost for Oracle Inventory

we are trying to find out on hand for inventory items quantities in a past date, so we make an extraction that takes item actual on.hand and add and minus item quantity transactions to calculate this quantity from now up to a certain date. To verify it we are using material transaction form, but user is asking to use detail material distribution report, there are daily cost updates

Does anyone know the difference between  the "Material Transactions" vs "Detailed Material Distribution Report" ? Or can you point me to some documentation to clarify this question?
