Using ipfilter with Sun Cluster

I have a Sun Cluster 3.2 install managing zones in a three node cluster.  Is there a technical reason why ipfilter cannot be used with Sun Cluster, or is it just a "we don't support that" issue?  Can ipfilter be used on the underlying nodes but not on the zones or can it be used in the zones and not on the nodes or can it not be used at all?  If you allowed all ports on all nodes to talk to each other, what's the problem?  I'm just trying to get a handle on this restriction.
