custom object and account

Hello - I thought I could use a higher number custom object to model a many to one relationship with Account.

The data loaded fine, I see all the custom object6 records loaded with the proper linked Account external key.

However, when I get to reporting, Advanced Custom Object subject area,  i can't seem to join the Account with

my custom object, when I bring in account attribute, I end up with no custom object records.  Is this expected

behavior, I was tryiing to save use of custom object 2 and 3 objects for true many to many relationships.
